The Artists' book 'common sense'
This article deals with the artists'
book Common Sense, an almanac published by Ulrich Tarlatt and Jörg
Kowalski (Bernburg/Halle) in 1989 for the first time and since then
appearing regularly in the Edition Augenweide once a year around
Christmas. It contains texts by both famous and unknown authors
and high-quality pictures (original drawings, graphic works etc.)
by mostly young artists. With more than 140 participants so far
from all over the world, this almanac has become the centre of the
literary and artistic avant-garde in the new Germany. Half of the
75 copies published are given to the participants, the other half
is purchased by private collectors and specialist libraries like
the Staatsbibliothek München, CentrePompidou, Ford Foundation
etc.
